Taming a Pet
How to tame a beast:
Once you have selected which beast to tame, simply stand in range and click the “tame” skill found in your spell book. Upon clicking, the beast will attack and takes 20 seconds to seduce it into your loving pet. During these 20 seconds you are extra vulnerable to attacks since your armor rating is decreased. The idea is to drop a freeze trap between the beast and yourself so that when taming, the beast is frozen solid, preventing you from taking damage for most of the duration. It`s also advisable to kill any surrounding beasts which may attack while taming.
Note: - Once tamed, the beast will will shrink in size - this is supposed to happen
Note: - You can only tame beasts the same level or lower than your current level (elite or non-elite)
Now, open the character sheet (press c) and select the pet tab. You will notice above the pet`s portrait it says “loyalty level 1″ and “unhappy”. It is important to immediately feed your pet to raise it`s happiness or it will soon abandon you, leaving you no choice but to re-tame it. Hold the cursor over the green icon if you are unsure what your pet eats, or use the skill “beast lore” prior to taming, available at level 24.
When feeding your pet, wait till it finishes eating before handing out more or the first piece will be wasted. To check this, look at your pet`s portrait at the top of the screen. While eating, you should notice a “bone” icon on the left (alternatively, you can click the “combat log” tab next to the general tab and you will see “your pet gained x happiness”).
An unhappy pet will strike at 75% damage and lose loyalty. While content, a pet will do 100% damage and a 125% damage while happy. Loyalty is only gained while your pet is either content or happy and while gaining experience - spending time in cities will not allow you to gain loyalty. Upon reaching “best friend” status (loyalty level 6), your pet will require less food and will receive more training points each time it gains a level.
