I have never been to NYC so sorry I have no idea of any ad you could place. The ads I placed were on a pin-board inside a language center actually in Japan.

First I would start familiarizing yourself with some of the tv personalities in Japan like comedians of the sort such as “downtown” as they are pretty popular.

As about actually meeting them in NYC I am not sure of any places sorry, but a good place to start might be to advertise that you are interested in learning Japanese and can repay by teaching them English - just what I did.

with regard to that article, I have never heard of that happening but its a bit surprising.

p.s I would never live in Japan because it’s too expensive and an article wrote how many companies are paying foreign employees to return to their own country regadless if they speak Japanese fluently.

you’ve put it very well

i know what you mean about the old people and the bikes
… but honestly, i thought that at first but i see young people and old people alike ringing their bells. I think it doesn’t have the same affect that it does in Australia - they are geniunely warning people that they are coming.
(Not slowing down etc is another matter.)
It reminds me of Indonesia - well Jakarta specifically - where, while driving, people use their horns along with their indicators to tell people that they are turning. I once asked my friend if it was offensive to use the horn so much and he laughed, and brushed it off saying it was the Indonesian’s ‘national sport’.
In Australia we only use the car horn when there is a dangerous situation so sometimes its hard to understand… but I guess being a gaijin living in Japan comes with a fair few of those issues!
